Twinbrook ES Students Read for the Record

September 18, 2007
Hyatt Regency Bethesda and Twinbrook Elementary School Join Jumpstart’s Read for the Record

Volunteers and 150 Students Participate in National Reading Campaign on September 20

Volunteers from Hyatt Regency Bethesda will join 150 kindergarten and prekindergarten students at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 20, at Twinbrook Elementary School in a shared reading experience through Jumpstart’s Read for the Record. Jumpstart’s national campaign to break the world record for the most children reading the same book on the same day aims to create awareness about the education gap that exists between socioeconomic levels. The campaign also raises money to support Jumpstart’s national early education programs.

The volunteers will be greeted by Board of Education President Nancy Navarro. Tom Wolf, General Manager of Hyatt Regency Bethesda, will lead the students in reading The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf. Volunteers and students then will move to classrooms to do an activity relating to the book.

Montgomery Knolls, East Silver Spring, and Highland elementary schools also are participating in Read for the Record.
