Press Event at Shady Grove Middle School Highlights Opening of 2008–2009 School Year

New School Year Features Phase II of Middle School Reform and Expanded Interactive Classroom Technology


Join Superintendent Jerry D. Weast, members of the Board of Education, and other officials on the opening day of school, August 26, at 10 a.m. at Shady Grove Middle School. The press event will focus on the expansion of middle school reform to six additional middle schools (with four more school receiving partial implementation) and an initiative to provide interactive classroom technology in two-thirds of secondary school classrooms by December 2008.

Montgomery County Public Schools begins the school year on August 26 with 199 schools and more than 11,000 teachers—more than 600 of them new to MCPS. MCPS officials note that enrollment figures for the upcoming academic year could be approximately 1,000 students higher than the 138,000 originally predicted.
