Parent Guide Helps Families Navigate School System

November 8, 2010
Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) has launched its new Parent Guide—an online, multimedia source packed with information about the school system.
The Parent Guide is a one-stop shop that presents an array of resources to answer essential questions about MCPS.  Among them:
        ·  How do I enroll my child in MCPS
        ·  Which bus route will my child use?
        ·  How do I keep in touch with my child’s teacher?
        ·  What’s a typical day like for an MCPS elementary student?
        ·  Can my middle school student bring a cell phone to school?
The Parent Guide features dozens of videos to highlight important issues such as special education services provided by MCPS and specialized academic programs available at all grade levels.
The guide is designed so parents can easily navigate to find the information most relevant to them and their child.
To use the guide, go to
http://montgomeryschoolsmd.org/parents/. The guide is also available in Spanish and will be featured soon in Chinese, French, Korean and Vietnamese.
“Parental involvement is a key factor in the success of any child’s education, and MCPS is committed to keeping strong connections between our schools and students’ homes,” said Jerry D. Weast, superintendent of schools.
MCPS offers a multitude of programs and services to help parents support learning at home, including free Parent Academy workshops that cover a variety of useful topics.
For more information about the Parent Academy and to see the fall schedule of workshops, visit the Department of Family and Community Partnerships website at
