Fifteen MCPS Students Receive $100,000 Posse Scholarships

January 7, 2011
Fifteen Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) seniors have won four-year, full-tuition scholarships from the Posse Foundation. The scholarships are worth about $100,000 each.

Nationally, 1,662 students were nominated by schools and community organizations for the prestigious scholarships and there were only 62 winners. MCPS students accounted for nearly one quarter of all the winners.

The Posse program, founded in 1989, identifies public high school students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential that may have been overlooked by traditional college selection processes. Thirty-eight colleges and universities each offer full-tuition scholarships to at least 10 students. These multi-cultural teams of students—called Posses—provide support to one another and serve important leadership roles on the campuses.

More information about the Posse Foundation is available at http://www.possefoundation.org/.
