Community Input on Superintendent Search Summarized in Report

February 17, 2011
More than 3,800 individuals provided feedback

The Montgomery County Board of Education today (February 17, 2011) released a report on the desired characteristics that community members and stakeholders would like to see in the next superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS).

In January and early February, Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA), the search firm that is assisting the Board in the superintendent search, collected feedback from more than 3,800 individuals, including parents, students, staff and community members. HYA gathered input through a variety of methods, including focus groups, public input forums, online surveys and individual interviews.

“The data and information in this report will be a valuable resource to the Board of Education as we go through the superintendent selection process,” said Board President Christopher S. Barclay. “On behalf of the Board, I want to thank the thousands of people who took the time to provide their input.”

HYA is currently accepting applications for the superintendent’s position and the Board will begin interviews soon. A finalist for the position is expected to be chosen well before Superintendent Jerry D. Weast’s retirement on June 30, 2011.
