White House Invites MCPS Students to Attend Annual Easter Egg Roll

   Students from Brown Station Elementary School in Gaithersburg will join hundreds of students from across the Washington, D.C. region to experience the fun and tradition of the White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday, April 25.

   The White House and the Office of U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan are providing tickets to the students at Brown Station and their families.

   President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will open the South Lawn for children 12 years and younger, and their families, for an exciting lineup of activities that include cooking stations, storytelling, sports, live entertainment, and, of course, Easter egg rolling. This year’s White House Easter Egg Roll will promote health and wellness with the theme, “Get Up and Go!” The theme complements the First Lady’s “Let’s Move!” initiative, a national campaign to combat childhood obesity.

   As one of 30 Title I schools in Montgomery County, Brown Station Elementary School continues to show strong academic performance across all student groups, meeting and exceeding the state’s performance targets on the Maryland School Assessment. The school also has forged a strong bond with its parent community to help the students thrive at home and at school.

Brown Station has 506 students this school year. More than 66 percent of students are eligible to receive free and reduced-price meals and more than 23 percent are English language learners.
