MCPS Seventh Grader a "Doodle 4 Google" Finalist

May 5, 2011
Public Can Vote for Wood MS Student to Win
$15,000 Scholarship, $25,000 for School Technology

The drawing of a seventh-grade student from Earle B. Wood Middle School was selected as a regional finalist in the national "Doodle 4 Google" contest. Clarissa Libertelli, 12, was one of 40 finalists chosen from 107,000 entries nationwide. Her doodle visually expresses her desire to be an author.

If she is chosen as one of four winners by a public vote, Clarissa will win a $15,000 college scholarship and her school will receive $25,000 for computers and technology.

The 40 finalists were selected by a panel that included celebrity guest judges and the drawings will be publicly displayed at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City and at SFMOMA in San Francisco. The winning doodle will be announced on May 19 and will appear on Google.com.

A winner will be chosen from each of four different groups--Grades K-3, Grades 4-6, Grades 7-9 and Grades 9-12. Clarissa is one of only two Doodle 4 Google finalists from Maryland.

An event celebrating Clarissa's selection was held at Wood Middle School on Wednesday, May 4 (
