Three Finalists for MCPS Teacher of the Year Named
March 9, 2012
Four Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) teachers have won 2012 Excellence in Teaching Awards from the Marian Greenblatt Education Fund. Three of the winners are recipients of the Veteran Teacher Award and are finalists to become the 2012-2013 MCPS Teacher of the Year.
The Veteran Teacher Award recipients are:
- Judith Chinn, an environmental science and chemistry teacher at Clarksburg High School
- Heydi Dupre, a Spanish language teacher at John T. Baker Middle School
- Christine Ground, an English teacher at Northwest High School
“Montgomery County Public Schools has some of the best teachers in the nation,” said Joshua P. Starr, Superintendent of Schools. “We celebrate these awardees and recognize all of the outstanding teachers in our school system who work tirelessly to inspire, encourage and engage our students.”

Finalists for the teacher of the year award are interviewed by a panel of educators, Board of Education members, MCPS staff, and representatives from the Montgomery County Council of PTAs, as well as a member of the Greenblatt family.
The Greenblatt Education Fund is also honoring Eupil Muhn, an English teacher at A. Mario Loiederman Middle School, as the 2012 Rising Star Teacher of the Year. This award honors a first- or second- year teacher whose creativity and enthusiasm encourages students to stretch themselves and achieve more.
The teachers, along with other MCPS employees and partners, will be honored for their exemplary work as part of the 10
th
annual Champions for Children Awards Celebration hosted by the Montgomery County Business Roundtable for Education (MCBRE). The MCPS Teacher of the Year will also be named during the event, which will take place on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at MedImmune’s headquarters in Gaithersburg.
The Marian Greenblatt Fund, named for a former Board of Education member, recognizes teachers that inspire their students to achieve, encourage younger teachers to be the best they can be, and help their school/community. Recipients of the Veteran Teacher Award must have five years or more of teaching experience in Montgomery County and receive a prize of $1,000. The recipient of the Rising Star Teaching Award receives $500.
