Superintendent Starr Testifies Before Senate Committee About Teacher Evaluations

March 20, 2013
On Wednesday, March 20, 2013, Superintendent of Schools Joshua P. Starr testified before the Senate Education, Health and Environmental Affairs Committee. Dr. Starr spoke in favor of Senate Bill 775, which would delay full implementation of a new statewide educator evaluation system until certain conditions are met.

Dr. Starr expressed concern about the state’s proposed evaluation system, including its reliance on current state assessments that are being phased out and that it would not accurately reflect the work of all teachers. Montgomery County Public Schools has a nationally recognized, highly effective Professional Growth System that is administered collaboratively with its employee associations.
