Six MCPS High Schools on U.S. News List of Best STEM Schools

June 21, 2013
Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) placed six high schools on a U.S. News & World Report ranking of the best science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) schools in the country.

U.S. News looked at the top 500 public schools from its latest Best High Schools rankings, and evaluated student participation and success on Advanced Placement science and math tests. The rankings are based on the principle that students at the Best High Schools for STEM must participate in and pass a robust curriculum of college-level math and science courses.

The MCPS schools on the list and their ranking are: Poolesville (7), Thomas S. Wootton (77), Montgomery Blair (113), Winston Churchill (123), Walt Whitman (144) and Richard Montgomery (152).

Overall, MCPS placed eight schools on the U.S. News Best High Schools list released in April—Winston Churchill (52), Walt Whitman (59), Poolesville (99), Thomas S. Wootton (105), Richard Montgomery (106), Bethesda-Chevy Chase (128), Montgomery Blair (247), and Wheaton (1,032).
