New Data from State and Local Academic Assessments, Honors and Advanced Placement Courses to be Presented

October 31, 2000
New information on state and local academic assessments in reading, language and mathematics, as well as data on enrollment in honors and advanced placement courses and algebra, will be presented during a meeting of the school system's Council on Instruction on Wednesday, November 1, at 10:00 a.m in the Carver Educational Services Center auditorium.

The presentation will be made by Dr. Pamela Hoffler-Riddick, associate superintendent for shared accountability, with superintendent of schools, Dr. Jerry D. Weast. Other school officials, community leaders and news media will be in attendance. Time will be made available for questions and interviews.

The new information includes data from the Comprehensive Test of Basic Skills (CTBS) given last year for the first time to all second, fourth, and sixth grade students in reading, mathematics, and language as part of the state's expanded assessment program. Information also will be shared on the results of last year's Criterion-Referenced Tests (CRTs), the school system's own assessment in reading and mathematics. In addition, reports on progress in addressing the Academic Milestones will be provided, including detailed information about enrollment in honors and Advanced Placement courses and completion in Grades 8 and 9 of Algebra 1 or a higher mathematics course.
