Week of Orientation will Provide Information and Support to New Educators

The Department of Staff Development is providing a weeklong orientation program for teachers new to Montgomery County Public Schools. The program is designed to meet the needs of teachers with a variety of backgrounds, from those with extensive classroom experience to others who are new to teaching.

Over the course of the week, new teachers will have opportunities to learn about the mentoring and peer support opportunities that are available to them. They will participate in curriculum workshops and other sessions that address grade-level issues, technology, and opportunities for professional development.

Three general orientation sessions, one each for elementary, middle, and high school level teachers, will kick off the week’s activities.

News media may attend a general session on Monday, August 20, from 8:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., at any of the following locations:

Session for Elementary School Teachers - Quince Orchard High School, 15800 Quince Orchard Road, Gaithersburg
Session for Middle School Teachers - Julius West Middle School, 651 Great Falls Road, Rockville
Session for High School Teachers - Sherwood High School, 300 Olney-Sandy Spring Road, Sandy Spring.

Monday’s agenda includes a welcome (8:00 a.m.), keynote address (8:30 a.m.), special issues breakout by grade (9:55 a.m.), BREAK, curriculum and assessment (1:30 - 3:30 p.m.).
