AmeriCorps Project CHANGE Volunteers to Serve Silver Spring

October 19, 2001
The Montgomery County Business Roundtable will kick off AmeriCorps’ newest program, Project CHANGE, at a press conference on October 23 at 1:00 p.m. at the Long Branch Community Center. Project CHANGE begins in the Silver Spring and Takoma Park communities this month with 12 volunteers who will work to increase the resources and support available to Montgomery County’s diverse population. The volunteers will serve one-year assignments in an elementary school, an adult ESOL program in Montgomery County Public Schools, Montgomery College, and five community organizations.

The press conference will introduce the AmeriCorps volunteers and highlight the collaboration that made Project CHANGE possible. Lt. Governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend is scheduled to administer the AmeriCorps pledge to the volunteers, and will be joined in the ceremonies by Roundtable executive director Robert Anastasi and board chair Stephen Marriott, Superintendent Jerry D. Weast, and county and state officials.

The project is funded by an AmeriCorps grant through the State of Maryland and coordinated by the Montgomery County Business Roundtable for Education.
