The public comment period on a proposed policy (CNE) on private contributions for improvements to school facilities has been extended to Friday, January 25, 2002, due to the volume of public response on this issue.

The policy has been tentatively adopted by the Board of Education for community comment. A copy of the document is available for public review and consideration on the MCPS web site shown below.

The proposed policy, entitled "Facility Improvements That Are Not Funded With Montgomery County Government Revenues," would establish a process for accepting non-county government funds for facility improvements. It also would provide the oversight for the acceptance of such funds and strengthen the relationships between the school system and various groups within the community that want to support such facility improvements.

Comments about the proposed policy should be provided in writing by Friday, January 25, 2002, to the Office of the Superintendent of Schools, 850 Hungerford Drive, Rockville, Maryland 20850. All responses will be shared with the Board of Education.
