Wheaton Cluster Conference to Promote Effective Writing Instruction

February 19, 2002
Teachers and administrators from Wheaton Cluster schools will meet on February 26th at the University of Maryland Shady Grove to focus on ways to improve student writing.

Called Wheaton Writes, the daylong staff development conference will emphasize teaching expository writing -- writing to inform. The conference is designed not only to provide a cluster wide focus on writing, but also to strengthen the foundation of the Wheaton Cluster professional learning community.

Teachers of grades K-12 and administrators will work in multiple grade level teams to promote smooth transition of writing instruction from grade to grade. Attention also will be paid to establishing consistent instruction within grades. Attendees will assist in follow up training for their colleagues who were not able to attend the conference.
