Three awards have been earned recently by employees of the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). They include:

§ Outstanding Technology-using Educator of the Year: Mary Wagner, social studies teacher at James Hubert Blake High School, has been named Outstanding Technology-using Educator of the Year by the Maryland Instructional Computer Coordinators Association. The award recognizes K-12 classroom teachers who have made exemplary contributions to instructional computing practices. Wagner has created a web page for her classes so that students can check for assignments and grades, comment on current events, and find on-line links to information. She also has set up web page shells for other teachers at Blake High School.

§ Middle Atlantic Regional Award in High School Chemistry Teaching: Elena Pisciotta, chemistry teacher at Damascus High School, is the recipient of the 2002 American Chemical Society Middle Atlantic Regional Award in High School Chemistry Teaching. She now is eligible for the national James Bryant Conant Award in High School Chemistry Teaching that will be awarded next year.

§ Bronze Telly Award: Chris Cram and Evan Miller, producers for MCPS Instructional Television, won a Bronze Telly award for a video segment that was used as part of the presentation of the Fiscal Year 2003 Operating Budget. The video, entitled “Good Principals,” featured principals Betty Collins, Galway Elementary School, and Robert Bastress, Damascus High School. The national Telly Awards showcase outstanding film and video productions, including non-network and cable TV commercials.
