The dedication of Spark Matsunaga Elementary School and Longview School will be held on Sunday, May 5. The dedication ceremony is from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m., followed by community events from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m.
Scheduled speakers include Senator Matt Matsunaga, Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta, and other local, state and federal officials.
Community events include:
§ 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. - Moonbounce, face painting and other activities, and food outside.
§ 3:15 p.m. - The Washington Toho Koto Society presents Japanese koto music.
§ 4:30 p.m. - The first running of the Matsunaga Mile. A course will be set up to guide participants through some awe-inspiring trivia about Spark Matsunaga.
Students have raised $2,100 towards a time capsule that will be on display in the Media Center for the next 20 years. A time clock will display the count down for students to observe over the 20-year period. All Matsunaga and Longview students have written work for inclusion in the time capsule. Letters from their families also will be in the capsule.
