Thirteen students from Montgomery County Public Schools have won gold medals in the annual Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) program, administered by the Montgomery County branch of the NAACP, with the support and assistance of the school system.

These students, a gold medal winner from a Montgomery County private school, and the winners of 12 silver medals and 15 bronze medals, received the awards in a ceremony on May 23rd at the Carver Educational Services Center.

The gold medal winners and their areas of competition are:

Michelle Agostini, 11th grade, Springbrook High School, playwriting;

Clifton Beach III, 12th grade, Watkins Mill High School, contemporary vocal music;

Angelica Boamah, 10th grade, Albert Einstein High School, drawing;

Stephanie Boyd, 12th grade, Sherwood High School, photograhy;

Neville Braithwaite, 10th grade, Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, dance;

Vagas Diggs, 11th grade, Watkins Mill High School, sculpture;

Crystal Hemby, 11th grade, Springbrook High School, dramatics and oratory;

Karl Kuhn, 12th grade, Watkins Mill High School, music composition;

Helina Metaferia 10th grade, Watkins Mill High School, painting;

Wangui Njuguna, 10th grade, Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, poetry;

Tomi Oluwatimilehin, 12th grade, Paint Branch High School, biology;

Jason Ray, 12th grade, Watkins Mill High School, contemporary instrumental music; and

Sheda Rogers, 12th grade, Walter Johnson High School, classical vocal music.
