Proposed revisions to the policy on fiscal responsibility and control of funds for the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) have been tentatively adopted for community comment by the Board of Education.

Policy DAA, Fiscal Responsibility and Control, was adopted originally in 1972 to ensure that adequate accountability was maintained by the Board of Education over budgetary transfers by the school system administration. Since that time, financial reporting requirements have changed, and the original monetary limits on transfers have been affected greatly by inflation. The revisions would update the policy and balance the need for adequate fiscal responsibility and control with the need for effective and efficient operating procedures.

Individuals can review the revised policy and comment in writing. Written comments should be received by October 11, 2002. All responses should be sent to the Office of the Superintendent of Schools, 850 Hungerford Drive, Rockville, Maryland 20850.
