Food and Nutrition Services Update
The Board of Education received an update from MCPS staff and held a discussion on food and nutrition services. MCPS students receive healthy breakfasts, lunches, after-school snacks, and suppers throughout the school year, as well as nourishing breakfasts and lunches during the summer. In addition, all foods and beverages sold to students during the school day, outside of the school meals program, are compliant with MCPS Regulation JPG-RA, Wellness: Physical and Nutritional Health.
During the 2017–2018 school year, the Division of Food and Nutrition Services (DFNS) has been working to refine and add to its services. This has included upgrading the DFNS web page, expanding and enhancing menu offerings with stakeholder feedback and input, developing a pilot approach for a universal lunch program in the 2018–2019 school year, and collaborating with the MCPS Educational Foundation, Inc., in the implementation of the Dine with Dignity Fund pilot program.
