The Board of Education last week [Thursday, November 21] approved an amended policy that provides the procedures for the use of non-governmental funding for school facility improvements. The action came during the Board's consideration of amendments to the Capital Improvements Program (CIP).
The amended policy, entitled “Facility Improvements that Are Not Funded with Montgomery County Government Revenues" (Policy CNE), provides a process for overseeing the acceptance of facility improvement funds from private sources. The Board established the threshold figure at $50,000 for donations that would need the Board's specific approval.
The policy is designed, in part, to strengthen the relationships between the school system and various groups within the community that want to support such facility improvements.
