"Conquista tu Sueño" to Help Hispanic Parents
November 26, 2002
A news conference will be held on December 3 at 1:00 p.m. at Highland Elementary School to introduce “Conquista tu Sueño/Aim High!,” a publication that reaches out to parents of Hispanic students, providing information that will help them improve their children’s success in elementary, middle, and high school. “Conquista tu Sueño” is the result of a unique collaboration between the school system and members of the Hispanic community, who provided guidance in the planning and production of the booklet.
Superintendent Jerry D. Weast, members of the Board of Education, community leaders, and parents will participate in the news event.
“Conquista tu Sueño,” written in English and Spanish specifically for parents of Hispanic students, follows the publication of “Aim High!” for African American families. These booklets are part of a series of publications targeted to communities within the school system. They will assist parents in supporting their children’s development of strong academic skills and confidence as learners, preparation for challenging instruction at all grade levels, and awareness of opportunities for college acceptance, success and financial aid.
A booklet for Asian American parents will be available after the first of the year.
