The Board of Education met this evening [Monday, March 24] and approved the following administrative appointment:

* Dr. Gregory E. Thornton, currently community superintendent for the Montgomery Blair, Albert Einstein, and John F. Kennedy clusters, as deputy superintendent of the school system, effective no later than July 1, 2003. He will replace Dr. James A. Williams who has announced plans to leave the system to pursue other career options.

In addition, it was announced this evening that Louis Martinez, currently community superintendent of the Damascus, Gaithersburg, Magruder, and Watkins Mill clusters, has been appointed superintendent of the Las Cruces Public Schools in New Mexico, effective by July 1.
