This fall begins a new season of the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Instructional Television production, “Our Schools Today.” The Cable Channel 34 TV series provides parents who come from different cultures and speak languages other than English with information and guidance on how to help their children succeed in school.

Each 15-minute program in the series is produced entirely in Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, English, and American Sign Language (ASL), providing a powerful way to expand outreach to parents and caregivers from Montgomery County’s multicultural community.

The series covers a range of topics such as preparation for the school year, testing requirements, available resources, school rules and regulations, and report cards. The goal is to help parents understand the workings of the educational system so that they will be able to access the information and services that will help them become strong advocates for their children in the school setting.

MCPS currently serves nearly 12,000 students enrolled in ESOL classes for students learning English. Approximately 300 MCPS students and 800 parents of students are deaf or hard of hearing.

“Our Schools Today” airs on MCPS Cable Channel 34 on the following days and times:

Weekdays at 8:15 a.m., 12:15 p.m., 4:15 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.

Tuesday - Spanish
Wednesday - Chinese
Thursday - Vietnamese
