Five Service Learning Fellows are Named
March 11, 2004
Five outstanding Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) educators were inducted into Maryland's statewide Service-Learning Fellows Program March 10 as the 12th Maryland Student Service Alliance class began training at Villa Julie College.
The five are among 12 new Fellows. Each received a $300 award, a commemorative plaque, and a certificate signed by State Superintendent of Schools Nancy S. Grasmick.
MCPS Service-Learning Fellows are:
· Wendeline Borowski, counselor, Somerset Elementary School
· Stephen Fletcher, social studies and environmental science teacher, Eastern Middle School
· Jennifer Hallmark, math and staff development teacher, Benjamin Banneker Middle School
· Brad Hoffman, fourth grade teacher, Somerset Elementary School
· Janet Scollick, family and consumer science teacher, Julius West Middle School
As Fellows, they will participate in leadership training and development opportunities and be recognized at Maryland's Service-Learning Leadership Recognition Reception April 22 from 4-6 p.m. at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis.
There are now 160 Service-Learning Fellows in Maryland's 24 school districts. They share their expertise by training other teachers in service-learning, mentoring their peers, and writing curriculum.
