The Washington Post will honor Mary D.P. Wagner, a comparative religion and government teacher at James Hubert Blake High School, and other winners of the Agnes Myer Outstanding Teacher Award at a reception and ceremony at the newspaper’s headquarters on Monday evening, April 26.

The prestigious award is presented annually to one teacher from each Washington metropolitan area school district.

Among those attending the awards ceremony will be Reginald M. Felton, vice president of the Montgomery County Board of Education; Dr. Jerry D. Weast, superintendent of schools; and Carole C. Goodman, principal of James Hubert Blake High School.

Wagner began her teaching career in 1992 at Damascus High School, where she taught U.S. history and national, state, and local government at all levels ranging from basic skills to on-level and honors. She also directed student theater productions and sponsored the drama club. After transferring to Blake in 1998, Wagner taught U.S. history and NSL government. In 2000, she also started teaching comparative religion as an elective. She received National Board certification last November.
