Board of Education Hires New Legislative Aide
The Montgomery County Board of Education is pleased to announce it has hired Patricia R. Swanson as its new legislative aide.
In this role, Ms. Swanson will serve as the primary liaison to Montgomery County’s state legislative delegation in Annapolis and will represent the Board of Education’s interests before the General Assembly. She will also serve as a liaison to the Montgomery County Council and will work with the Montgomery County Planning Board on a variety of issues.
“Patricia Swanson has the experience and expertise to ensure that the Board, as well as the students and staff of Montgomery County Public Schools, are well represented in Annapolis during the legislative session and throughout the year,” said Patricia B. O’Neill, president of the Board. “She has a deep understanding of the legislative process and has developed a broad array of contacts that will assist the Board with its work at the local, state, and federal level.”
Ms. Swanson has served as legislative aide to Senate President Thomas V. “Mike” Miller, Jr., and Montgomery County Delegate Ariana Kelly. She has also served as legislative assistant for the office of State Senator John C. Astle, of Anne Arundel County and State Senator Edward Kasemeyer, of Baltimore and Howard counties. In these roles, she served as a committee analyst assigned to the Budget and Taxation Committee, attended hearings and briefings, and assisted constituents.
Ms. Swanson replaces Laura Steinberg, who retired recently after 24 years with Montgomery County Public Schools, including the last eight years as staff assistant to the Board for legislative and intergovernmental relations.
