Poolesville HS Ranks in the Top 100 of America’s Most Challenging High Schools
Eight MCPS Schools Rank in Top 20 of Washington Area and Maryland Schools
(Rockville, Md) – Poolesville High School ranks as number 80 in the 2016 America’s Most Challenging High Schools list published by The Washington Post. The school ranks first among Maryland schools and second among Washington area schools.
Eight MCPS schools ranked in the top 20 of the Washington area schools and the top 10 of Maryland schools (Poolesville, Winston Churchill, Richard Montgomery, Bethesda Chevy Chase, Walt Whitman, Quince Orchard, Walter Johnson, and Thomas S. Wootton).
Schools are ranked by The Washington Post based on a ratio of the number of Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests given at a school in 2015, divided by the number of seniors graduating that year.
“Our schools continue to perform at high levels on AP and IB tests,” said Larry A. Bowers, interim superintendent of schools. “MCPS is committed to ensuring that all of our students have the access, rigor and opportunity to achieve success.”
The list includes 2,289 schools across the country and more than 186 schools in the Washington region.
