Student Selected as Opera Quiz Kid Panelist
February 15, 2002
Richard Montgomery High School junior Susan (Stevie) Miller is one of three students nationwide who will be on live international radio during an April 6 broadcast of the Metropolitan Opera Quiz.
Earlier this year, Miller qualified as one of 12 national finalists competing for the three spots on the ChevronTexaco Opera Quiz Kids panel. She won Round Two of the regional competition, held at the Kennedy Center January 9, by answering a series of questions about operas and composers posed by representatives of ChevronTexaco, the Metropolitan Opera and the Washington Opera.
During the weekend of February 8, Miller traveled to Houston, Texas, for the final competition to decide the Quiz Kids panel members and won one of the three coveted spots.
The radio quiz program about opera will be broadcast live from New York City on April 6 as one of the intermission features of the ChevronTexaco Metropolitan Opera radio broadcast. Miller, one of her parents and Richard Montgomery High School vocal music teacher Ron Frezzo will travel to New York City April 5-7 for an all-expense-paid weekend, which will include the opera and other events.
The April 6 broadcast can be heard locally on WETA-FM 90.9.
