MCPS Expands Communications Leadership Team

December 7, 2022

Additional Staff Members Will Support Districtwide Communication Priorities

In order to provide more robust system-wide media relations, proactive storytelling, news, crisis communications and marketing services, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) has added several new positions to the Communications Department in the Office of the Chief of Staff.

As the largest school system in Maryland and the 14th largest in the nation, and to meet the Board of Education’s commitment to community engagement, the additional senior positions were created to build the system’s capacity to respond to the needs of the entire MCPS community, including parents, students, school-based staff and the media.

The Communications Department supports the priorities of MCPS Superintendent Dr. Monifa McKnight and works under the strategic direction of Brian Stockton, Chief of Staff and Celia Fischer, Assistant Chief for Communications, both of whom were appointed in June.

Chris Cram, Director of Communications, will continue to lead the day-to-day strategic and internal communications, along with MCPS-TV project management and oversight of MCPS web services.

Jessica Baxter, Director of Public Information, now serves as the district’s lead public information officer, focusing on media relations and crisis communications. Baxter, an MCPS graduate and MCPS parent, previously served as Director of Strategic Communications for Arlington County Government.

Aisha Mbowe, Director of News and Marketing, now leads the editorial content of news and information to illustrate the successes of MCPS students, initiatives, programs, partners, schools and offices. Mbowe, also an MCPS graduate, previously served as reporter and anchor with the 7News team in Boston.
